Our Workshops
Tranquility Workshops Mission Statement: Our mission is to help people understand how stress negatively impacts their health, overall well-being and quality of life. We teach how to effectively cope with stressful thoughts, conditions and situations by using “mindfulness.” Mindfulness is a relaxation technique that focuses on present moment awareness. These convenient and affordable workshops are presented in small groups in the form of “mini-retreats” to calm and heal the mind.
Definition of Mindfulness: Mindfulness is a relaxation technique that focuses on present moment awareness. Most of the time our minds wander endlessly to thoughts of the past and the future. We create stories in our minds that often have nothing to do with reality.
Mark Twain Quote: “I have been through some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened.”
What mindfulness is NOT…
- Laying in bed awake at night worrying about tomorrow.
- Watching television, checking e-mail, sipping coffee and talking on the phone. Multi-tasking.
- Trying to enjoy a relaxing moment (massage, bubble bath) but thinking of all of the things on your to-do list and the people that pissed you off today.
- Driving down the highway, stuck in your own thoughts and finally “waking up” panicked worrying that you missed your exit.
- Watching the evening news to catch the weather forecast and when your husband asks you the weather for tomorrow, you can’t remember seeing it on the news.
Tranquility Workshops will introduce people to mindfulness, teaching specific techniques to bring present moment awareness into daily life to calm the mind and body. Our aspiration is to “de-mystify” the concepts of Mindfulness Meditation as some religious practice that only monks and gurus do, sitting in silence for long periods of time. Our goal is to help make mindfulness simple, understandable and “mainstream” in today’s culture.
