Mindfulness Journal Day 26: Take it easy.....

On Facebook, I posted a quote by Lao Tzu about hurrying:  “Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished”.   When I’m on auto pilot, I’m always rushing around.  Even when I was on my mindfulness retreat last summer, I had to keep reminding myself to slow down.  High speed mode is not good for my body or my mind.  It feels so much better turning the switch down!  Try it and see for yourself! Fortunately, I don’t have that same need for speed when I’m driving.  I always try to leave early enough so that there is no need to hurry.   Did you ever notice another driver speed by you in a car (hurrying to their destination), only to meet up with you at a red light further ahead?  Some people drive like they’re in a race, instead of just navigating to a destination.  Check out their facial expressions, if you can catch a glimpse as they fly by!  Their facial muscles are all tensed up because of the hot, judgmental thoughts  running through their minds:

  • “Come on……let’s get going!”
  • “Move it!”
  • “What are you doing?”

The tension they’re experiencing doesn’t stop at their face…….it runs right through their bodies……..affecting their heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, etc.

We’re only going from Point A to Point B.  Why do we have to put ourselves in the fight or flight mode?  No emergency here… until you get in an accident because your mind wasn’t fully on driving safely.

As for me, I’m going to be mindful of my pace today…..for my health, well-being and inner peace.  Give it a try yourself, and feel the difference.
