Today I became aware that I need to put more effort into mindfulness of anger. When anger is triggered in me, I sometimes quickly respond in a verbally aggressive way, without thinking (mindlessly), and later regret it. I recover quickly, but what I want to continue working on, is first recognizing that I’m having feelings of anger, and then not speaking until I have calmed down and given the situation some thought. When you take the time to look deeply and think about how to respond, what you eventually communicate will probably be very different than what you would have said on auto pilot mode. This goes along with the Fourth Mindfulness Training I received on my retreat (refer to Day 16 of blog), and is all around good advice. Simple….but not easy!
I’m now on the look-out for feelings of anger arising in me, and I’m determined to respond more peacefully and effectively. I’ll keep you posted!
