Several nights ago, my 3 year old grandson slept over my house. He was so excited for us to watch Alice In Wonderland together, before he went to sleep. I got him comfy in bed, and then started the movie. I sat at the table next to his bed, with my attention split between the movie and playing with my brand new computer. He kept a running commentary on what he was seeing, and frequently asked me to look at something on the screen. At one point he stopped watching the movie and said to me: "Can you shut off the computer and be with me?" Bingo! He knew that he didn't have my full attention, and that it didn't feel good to him. Of course, I was happy to turn off the computer, and snuggled up next to him to watch the movie. We had such a good time watching the antics of the characters and discussing their silliness. We giggled, sang songs, and shared a snack. I was so grateful that he reminded me to take the time to spend some precious moments together with him, while we have the opportunity to do so. He won't be this age forever, and there will come a day when he won't want to snuggle with me to watch a movie. How grateful I am for this moment in time, and all the opportunities for happiness that are available to me right now, if I choose to pay attention to them. It's so easy to get lost in the world of multi-tasking. Give others the gift of your full attention........they'll feel your true presence.
