Mindfulness Journal Day 27: It's contagious!

For my grandson’s 4th birthday, he received a Leapster 2 (hand-held video game).   This morning,  he was playing with the device while he was also watching one of his favorite shows on TV.  At one point, he got up to shut the television off, announcing to me:  “I’ll do better at the game if I’m not watching TV.”    I was so proud that he made the decision to focus on only one thing in the moment, and with good results…..I might add.   Maybe my mindfulness is rubbing off on him!

In fact, quite a few of my friends and relatives tell me that they’ve learned so much about topic, just from interacting with me.  One thing that I’ve found is that the more I practice mindfulness, the more it becomes a solid part of me……defining how I choose to look at myself, my blessings and the world around me.  Although I’m not always in the mindfulness mode,  I am so aware that it is an important tool that I have with me at all times, ready to use as I see fit:  to “fix” my thinking when my mind is not based in reality (predicting the future);  to show my love in relationships by giving my “full attention”;  to fully take in special moments that enhance my experience of living a joyful life;  to take better care of my overall well-being (physically, emotionally and spiritually).  I cannot imagine living without it, on auto pilot mode all day, every day.  Doing that many years ago took toll on me, and I am so grateful for a doctor who recommended the path of mindfulness to me.
